Dr Elka Stefanova je redovni profesor neurologije na Medicinskom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu; sa istraživačkim interesovanjem za neurodegenerativne poremećaje: Alchajmerovu i Parkinsonovu bolest. U okviru naučnoistraživačke karijere u inostranstvu, provela je na postdoktorskoj poziciji u Department of Experimental Psychology, Downing College, University of Cambridge (1997/1998) i na Neurotec department, Karolinski institut (2001-2003).
Dugi niz godina radi kao specijalista neuropsihijatrije i posvećena je kliničkim radom sa pacijentima. Osnovala je Centar za kognitivne poremećaje i demenciju; na Klinici za neurologiju UKC Srbije od 2008.
Bila je šef Katedre za Neurologiju na Medicinskom fakultetu (2015-2021).
Prof. Elka Stefanova je do sada objavila oko 332 naučna rada, od kojih je 108 naučnih radova objavljeno u celini u časopisima sa JCR liste, Brain, Molecular Psychiatry, Alzheimer’s Dementia, Neurobiology of ageing, Neuroimage, Neurogenetics, European Neurology itd.
Učestvovala je kao predavač na mnogobrojnim domaćim i internacionalnim kongresima po pozivu iz oblasti demencija i prakinsonizma.

Član je EADC (Evropskog konzorcijuma za Alchajmerovu bolest); ECDLB Evropskog konzorcijuma za Levijevu bolest tela; U društvu Evropske Akademije za Neurologiju (EAN) je aktivni čalan Naučnog panela za demenciju i kognitivnih poremećaja. Aktuelno je na poziciji Ko-predsednice EAN Naučnog panela o Višim kortikalnim funkcijama. Isto tako je višegodišnji član Međunarodno društvo za Parkinsonovu bolest i poremećaje pokreta (MDS) iUdruženje za Alchajmerovu bolest Međunarodno društvo za unapređenje istraživanja i lečenja Alchajmerove bolesti (ISTAART).
Dobitnica je nagrade za svoj doprinos u istraživanju neurodegenerativnih poremećaja: 1) Nagrada za izvrsnost fondacije Hemofarm (2019), 2) Godišnja nagrada za naučni doprinos Medicinskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, Srbija (2020).
Učestvovala je u mnogim nacionalnim i međunarodnim projekima u oblasti neurologije.
Autor je Nacionalnih smernica za dobru kliničku praksu u Alchajmerovoj bolesti (2013).
Jedan je od osnivača Srpskog Nacionalnog društvu za Alchajmerovu bolest za pacijente i negovatelje.

Dr Elka Stefanova is a full Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade; with research interest in neurodegenerative disorders: Alzheimer (AD) and Parkinson disease (PD). Within scientific research career abroad she spent on Post doc position Department of Experimental Psychology, Downing College, University of Cambridge (1997/1998) and in NEUROTEC Department, KAROLINSKA INSITUTET (2001-2003).
She has been working as a specialist in neuropsychiatry for many years and is dedicated to clinical work with patients. Also, Dr Elka Stefanova has many years of experience in clinical trials (in PD and AD) as PI and co-investigator.
She was the Chair of Neurology at Faculty of Medicine (2015-2021y). She is the Head of the Center of Cognitive disorders and Dementia; Clinic of Neurology UCC of Serbia from 2008 -ongoing.
Prof. Elka Stefanova has so far published about 332 scientific papers, of which 108 scientific papers were published in their entirety in journals from the JCR list, Brain, Molecular Psychiatry, Alzheimer’s Dementia, Neurobiology of ageing, Neuroimage, Neurogenetics, European Neurology and etc.

She is the member EADC (European Alzheimer’s Disease Consortium); ECDLB European Consortium of Lewy Body disease; She is the member of EAN Scientific Panel Dementia and Cognitive disorders Management Group; and Cochair of EAN Scientific Panel of Higher Cortical functions Management group.
Also, for many years she is the member of The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS), as well as of Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART) 2016
She was awarded for her contribution in the research of neurodegenerative disorders with 1) Hemofarm Foundation Excellence Award (2019), 2) Annual award for scientific contribution Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Serbia (2020)
She has been awarded with many national and international projects in the field of neurology.
She was the author of the National Guidelines for good clinical practice in Alzheimer’s disease (2013)
She is the one of the founders of the Serbian National Society for Alzheimer’s disease (SUAB) for patients and caregivers.
